Henman bids stylish farewell

Updated: 2007-09-24 07:08

LONDON: Tim Henman finished his competitive career in style by leading
Great Britain to a doubles victory at Wimbledon that secured a place in
the Davis Cup World Group on Saturday.

Henman joined forces with Jamie Murray to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 7-5
against Croatia's Marin Cilic and Lovro Zovko and secure an unassailable
3-0 lead with two rubbers remaining.

Henman had been tearful after the win but this time he was content to
wave to the crowd before walking out off the famous grass courts for the
last time, with his daughter Rosie in his arms.

He admitted it was the perfect way to end his career.

"I've had a few good scripts over the past few years but it's just
fantastic," Henman said.

"For me to finish with Britain back in the World Group is perfect.

"The crowd have been phenomenal. Today was an incredible atmosphere. It's
this type of occasion I'm going to miss in the future and I'm going to
miss each and every one of you that supported me throughout my career.

"It's been an unbelievable journey for me. I've fulfilled so many of my
dreams.

"Jamie was brilliant too, it's the first time we played together and I
thought we combined really well," said Henman.
